Remakes of classics....why?

OK I love movies and I never thought I would ever make a blog but the movie industry have drove me to the point where I can't keep my thoughts to myself anymore. What is with all the remakes these days have we really reached the bottom of the creativity barrel? What really drove me to this blog is the new release of Footloose which I consider a classic film and should never have been remade. First off it isn't even old enough in my eyes being that its only 27 years old. I'm only 31 and this is in my "classic movie" section along with The Breakfast Club and Saturday Night Fever which I intend to share with my daughter when she is old enough just like my mom shared her "classics" with me. I feel that to remake a classic movie tarnishes it for future generations because the remakes are never as good as the originals because when you remake such films they lose what made the original so special you can't duplicate how an actor/actress captures and embodies there characters or the chemistry between two cast members that's what makes them classics there's just something that sparks. Also if your remaking a classic movie you can't take out the iconic moments in the movie they are iconic for a reason. So if you can't think of something original and have to remake something how about doing some research and looking into films that maybe didn't have a big budget but had a great story but when made had cheesy props or the acting wasn't up to par or people just didn't hear about them I say give them a revamp and a bigger budget and remake them. I'll give you my top ten (and these are just my opinion) movies who deserve a remake with a bigger budget and better effects or I just think that the technologies we have now would just make them that much cooler. I put them in no particular order.
-1987's Prince of Darkness
-1995's Johnny Mnemonic
-1988's They Live
-1988's Killer Clowns from Outer Space
-1987's Robocop
-1990's Nightbreeders
-1994's Brainscan
-1992's Lawnmower Man
-1972's Children Shouldn't Play with Dead Things
-1988's Lady in White
I'm sure there are tons that also would be great that i may have over looked or that i haven't even heard of i haven't seen every movie ever made if you have one that you feel deserves a remake add it in comments.

  1. There are some remakes of Movie Classics I do like such as: Sabrina, Parent Trap, Miracle on 34th St. to name a few, but most of them did not try to remake them as much as update them. Bring them into the future, in those cases you sometime enjoy watching both the original classic and the remake. You are right about the chemistry of the actors, play a large role in how successful the movie can be. I love the chemistry between Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan, Richard Gere and Julia Roberts, Antonio Bandaras and Catherine Zeta-Jones, and of course Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolelee to name a few.
