Frozen Ground is a true story about an Alaskan state trooper named Jack Holcombe who hunts down a serial rapist/killer. Now I love a good movie based off a true story but, sometimes you wonder did this really happen. Well I can say for sure this one did. It started back in the early 70's and ended in the early 80's. The casting was great in this movie Nicholas Cage plays the state trooper (and he was the nick cage we all fell in love with he doesn't do the usual crazy thing he does he was great) while Vanessa Hudgens plays the victim Cindy Paulson and she plays a great hot mess a little whinny but she did a good job . John Cusack plays Robert Hansen the bad guy and I'm starting to think that John Cusack maybe in a very dark place right now because his last 4 roles have been really horribly dark. I have to say he plays a great serial killer but I think he may need a change to something a little happier cause he is really starting to look the part which is creepy and I'm starting to worry about his mental health. This story is tragic and I mean super chilling made more so by the fact this is true. I mean 10 years he was able to get away with it. I just don't understand the justice system sometimes. The Writer/Director Scott Walker added some nice touches to the movie. I enjoyed the photo gallery of all the real girls who's bodies were found and not found I think that was a great touch and also really cemented this movie as being not just another kidnap/torture film. It really hit home the fact that these poor women went through such unspeakable things and he was almost not caught. This movie was captivating and kept you interested the whole time. I also wonder why this movie wasn't advertised or in theaters long? I mean it came to theaters in August 2013 and was released on DVD in October 2013 that is a quick turn around. On rotten tomatoes it has an average of 5.1 stars out of 10 come on people have we become so numb to theses types of stories that we just shrug it off. This movie wasn't very graphic which I appreciate I like them just hinting around about what happened or making suggestions letting me use my imagination which can make the violence more brutal and the anticipation greater. Over all a well written chilling movie. I say its a must see. On a side note though I thought the wife of the state trooper was a cold hearted bitch......watch the movie you will see why.
real guy John
like I said great casting!
