You're Next *** 1/2

who's up for a great Horror movie this girl right here. I have to say I picked this movie up based solely on the cover it is a very intriguing cover. I'm not going to lie the beginning was rough to get through some really bad acting  but once the action started you kind of forgot about that. The main Character Erin (awesome name by the way lol) was well written I was so happy to see a girl that didn't just scream and run into a room with no exit trip over air and scoot herself across the floor crying and pointing a weapon she is never going to use. If your a true Horror fan you know exactly what I'm talking about lol. This Erin Chick was bad ass she didn't hesitate and shocked even me by her gumption. Parts of it was a bit predictable but the movie was very enjoyable and at the end you will say holy shit!!! I am defiantly going to buy this one it was a nice surprise.

The Conjuring an R rating for what.......**

The Conjuring is a "scary" movie based on a true event that happened to a family in the 70's. I love a good haunting movie based off true events like Amityville horror which I found to be very scary. This movie received and R rating just for being  "too scary". So I was super stoked to see this I was expecting to be scared Sh@! less. Well I was disappointed again. Why the heck was this given an R rating it wasn't scary at all I didn't even jump once and I'm an easy jumper. Let's just put this in perspective my husband fell asleep and I was left to watch it alone and I still wasn't sacred lol. But after I let it sink in I decided to watch it again in hopes that maybe because I had such high hopes for this movie it distracted me from enjoying the movie. So I enlisted my 12 year old to watch it with me (Yes I know worst mother of the year award at least I pre watched it to make sure there wasn't anything to inappropriate ). I have to say even the second time it was lack luster and not so scary even my daughter was yawning. So I ask again why was this given and R rating for being "too scary"? My guess is they were making headlines and trying to stir up curiosity so people would go see the film. I am starting to realize that movie ratings are subject to political and self serving agendas. This movie should have been rated PG-13 at most. Now what I really think they should have done was include that Annabelle doll more or maybe just make a movie about that cause that was the creepiest part of the whole entire movie. My daughter and I both agree that Annabelle was a creepy story but, was also added at  very odd places at the beginning and mid end of the movie. It really didn't make sense there was no reason for those parts of the movie. I understand they used that story to introduce the Ghost hunters but if your going to use such a creepy and captivating story for your intro you better make sure the main story is scarier and more captivating so that you don't have Anabelle in this case being the more memorable character of the movie. When the movie ended the most talked about part was the doll everyone was more interested in that story then the one that was told. So much so that I to was so interested in the doll that I also looked up on the inter web and found out that the Annabelle doll is real. There are a lot of stories to go with the doll so many that they could make an amazing movie. I know myself and others would line up to see it. I know there have been other doll movies like Child's Play and Dead Silence but this one is different. Not only is it based off of true events but also you can look it up it verify them. Also it was already introduced in a movie so the curiosity has already be set up. You would just need to write and amazing script and direct it well with a good ending. The way they ending The Conjuring was dumb I was expecting it to jump items and leave the music box and go into the locket and in turn take over a new domain. Which would have actually mad
e the weird and ill place scene with the ghost and the doll make much more sense. So alas another mediocre horror film getting great reviews for no reason but to make money.

Define "Scary Movie"

What makes a "scary movie" truly scary? Is it when it's based on true events? or is it a serial killer on the loose? Well that's up to the individual viewer some people scare easier then others. I feel a true "scary movie" messes with your mind leaves you feeling like you have to look over your shoulder every few minutes to make sure no one is behind you. Or has you sleeping with the lights on for two weeks straight (which i have done). I have had to turn on every light as I walked through the house so I wouldn't be in the dark. I am a horror movie junkie I love to be scared, But as I am getting older there have been fewer and fewer good quality "scary movies". I don't know if my aging has made me notice that we are just running out of good stories to tell. Besides the Saw franchise what have we really gotten in ways of a really good original idea for a scary movie? And if I see one more remake of the great horror films I loved as a kid like Friday the 13th , Nightmare on Elm st , and Halloween I'm gonna scream (and not in a good way). Whenever I see a remake I ask myself  have we lost all our imagination and creativity? Can we not think of something fresh and new? Nightmare on Elm st is my favorite horror series and I am sad to say I actually broke down and rented the new remake from Redbox I thought hey it's only a dollar let's see what all the buzz is about. Can I say OMG! what a piece of crap! 1. the guy they got to play Freddy was not scary and his voice was weird. 2. The story I feel was way to rushed and off base. 3. the acting all around was horrible I wanted to spoon my eyes out. I was so disappointed. All I'm gonna say is Robert England is and always will be Freddy Kruger in my heart. Anyway I digress I could go on forever but I won't bore you to death. I have come up with what I feel is a list of movies that define what a "scary movie" really is.

1. Jaws   - Come on who doesn't got to the beach and think about Jaws? I still to this day don't go into the ocean just because of this movie.

2. Nightmare on Elm st - The best idea for a horror movie ever! He gets you in your sleep you can't stay awake forever.

3. Aliens - No matter how many times I see this movie I always jump when the alien jumps out of the girls chest. Every time I have heartburn I get creeped out.

4. The Saws - OK does it scare anyone else that there was someone out there thinking up all those torture devices for the movies just saying....

5. Darkness Falls -  Yes I know this movie is about the tooth fairy but did anyone else find the story absolutely frightening? I slept with the lights on for two weeks straight.

6. The Omen (1976) - I haven't looked at kids the same since. Even when I take my kids to the park there is always that one kid.......

7. Amityville Horror - Based on true events enough said..

8. The Sixth Sense - Having dead people jump out at you all the time especially as a kid scary.

9. The Descent -  If the claustrophobia doesn't get you then the monsters will.

10. Poltergeist - Houses built on ancient Indian burial grounds .....makes you wonder what's under your house.

11. The Shinning - Watching your husband slowly lose his grip on reality in a snowed in hotel with no escape oh and not to mention the ghosts who keep trying to hurt your child if that doesn't scare you I don't know what will.

12. Hostel -  well after seeing this movie I don't want to travel to Europe anymore.

13. Birds - Well you never know it could happen......Birds are shady ever looks at a crow sitting on a power line and how it just stares back at you creepy.

14. The Thing - You don't know who it could be. It could be your best mate .....and your stuck out in the middle of nowhere in below freezing temperatures.

15. The Cell - To go into the mind of a killer this movie left me feeling uneasy and disturbed.

16. The Crazies - If you can't trust your water supply, the government or your neighbors what do you do?

17. The Blair Witch Project - Camping gone wrong....The close up and shaky scenes left you nervous and jumpy.

18. The Hills Have Eyes -  Mutants attacking you and your family while your on a road trip then kidnapping you to try and rape you so you have they babies. Every girls nightmare.

19. Friday the 13th/Halloween - Both are serial killers you just can't kill. And thank you Jason I can not close my eyes while in the shower because of you.

20. House of 1,000 Corpse - Again don't want to go on any road trip anytime soon....Rob Zombie makes you scream out loud with this one.

Thank You for reading and I Hope you enjoyed the latest issue of my thoughts on movies. Hope to see you next time here at What The Film.

Ode to Halloween Horror

Well as Halloween approaches I find myself craving the great Halloween horror movies more then I usually do but as I look on the T.V. I see that none of the channels that I pay extra for are playing any horror movies which makes me wonder if  i'm the only one that thinks that for the whole month of October they should be playing nothing but Halloween themed movies I mean call me silly but I thought that would be a no brainer they do it at Christmas. So it got me thinking if I had to choose my favorite horror movies what would they be so I sat and thought about it and here is my top 20 favorite horror movies in no particular order.

                                                                1. 1975 Jaws:
The music and the half underwater half above water views scared the crap out of me. I still don't go in the ocean

2. 1984 A nightmare on elm st
. I find Freddy truly frightening and i loved that it was different from all the other slasher movies at the time he gets you in your sleep that genius you have to sleep .

3. 1980 The Shinning:
just a classic you can't go wrong with a psychological thriller. you watch him slowly go crazy.

4. 2003 Darkness Falls :
OK i know a lot of you are gonna say WTF but this movie scared the crap out of me so bad i slept with the lights on for 2 weeks. And yes i know it's about the tooth fairy but hey I'm afraid of the dark lol.

5. 1987 Hellraiser:
OK truly the goriest movie i ever seen and just creepy gross. The teeth chattering guy was so scary i had to hide under the covers when he came on.

6. 1973 The Exorcist:
OK back when this was made it was really scary i don't find it that scary but it is the best possession movie i have ever seen there just hasn't been anything this well done since.

7. 1976 The Omen:
Without a doubt the creepiest kid ever!! This kid wins the creepiest kid award he made the hairs on my neck stand up.

 Just a creepy true story.

13. 2002 Feardotcom:
Really a great movie underestimated killer movie with a vengeful ghost to boot.

Out in the middle of nowhere and the enemy can be anyone....
15. 1986 Aliens:
My all time favorite alien movie i still scream when the alien pops out of the living girls chest.

16. 2006 The Hills have eyes:
nothing more scarier then breaking down in the middle of nowhere and being tortured by mutants.

17. 1986 April fools:
This is a classic and has one of the best endings of all time.

18. 1982 Poltergeist:

Now this one scares me cause it could happen some government experiment gets loose and we all go crazy...
20. 2004 Dawn of the Dead:
zombie movies are scary but this one they aren't slow they can actually run and communicate yikes we are screwed now.
