Is character developement to much to ask for?

Lately I have seen a few movies where the action was good the story OK but you didn't learn about the characters in the film. Which I don't know about you but for me that is very important (among other things like ending a movie properly lol). you could have a great story but if you don't draw your audience in with characters they learn to know and get attached to your story is going to miss the mark.

SPOILER ALERT!!!!    SPOILER ALERT!!!!

For instance I just watched The Warrior. Really great fight scenes but you didn't understand why anything was going on. Like why did the brothers not talk? why was the teacher losing his house? Why did the brother in the marines go AWOL? and why if he hated his father so much did he go to him for a place to stay? so all in all not a good movie for me. (and yes for those of you who are going to say I just didn't get it) yes I know they touched on all those subjects but I mean they barely touched them more like grazed over so fast you didn't get the depth of it. it just skimmed the surface I am just saying I like my characters with a little more depth.
I have been having a really hard time getting excited about movies lately. They are just lack luster lots of big booms , fire , and fights but really nothing deeper then that. I want an experience (I don't know about what you want I can only speak for myself lol.) I want to be sucked in and emotionally invested in the characters and the story so if one of the characters goes and gets himself blown up in one of those really big booms I will actually care. So writers please take the time to create not just excitement but a more whole and deeper picture we are not all morons I promise it won't go over are heads. Also if it is based on a book (which now a days is a lot) please DO NOT assume everyone has read it and include the little secret details and information so we understand the joke or information (like the mauder map in harry potter I had to explain to my husband how the hell professor lupin know how to use it lol) to me that is important info just saying.

Moral of my story put a little effort into your movies and maybe people will actually buy the DVD...

Book to Movie faux pas

Well as I get ready to watch the Last Air bender with my 9 year old son (which he has been counting down the days till it came out) I to start getting excited. Then the movie starts and they say Ang's name and for all of you who watch the cartoon on Nickelodeon and have seen the movie know what i mean. My son just says pretty loud that's not how you say his name. So after that and a few other Miss said A words i couldn't really enjoy the movie cause my son was fuming mad over what he feels is an unforgivable mix up. But it did get me thinking and wondering if the director ever saw the show or read the books? then i thought some more about other movies that i felt was like did they even read the book? So long story short I have decided to talk about it and see if I am the only one who feels that if you are going to make a movie based on a book or T.V show maybe you should actually watch or read it. Back to The Last Air Bender I did go back and watch it a second time with out my son and found if you got over the annoying miss pronounced words the movie is really good but unfortunately I don't think the other two books will be made due to the fact that it didn't do to well at the box office. Partly I think is because there are a lot of M.Night Shayamalan haters out there. I personally like his work and find that a lot of people just don't get him because it goes over there heads. I find myself explaining a lot of his movies to people. Also i feel that directors assume that everyone has read the books i feel that they did this with the Harry Potter movies. Especially the little things like the maunders map my husband was like how did that teacher (professor lupin) now how to use it. well since i read all the books i explained the whole thing to him and he pretty much said well that some important info that should have been in the movie I too have to agree with him there but i could go on and on about the things that should have been put in the Harry Potter movies or things i felt deserved more attention (like Fred's death in the final battle). I mean come one that's a pretty important character also they didn't even tell you that Tonk's was pregnant or that she even had the baby till after they were both dead and Harry is on his way to the woods to fight voldemort. But I digress I know there excuse for these things not making the cut is due to the play time but come on now Harry Potter could have been 5 hrs long and people would be dying to sit through it. I don't know about you but for me I don't care how long a movie is as long as its done well and i would much rather have a long movie then one with holes in it. I also think that directors and casting directors should be made to read the books so they can cast the character properly i love the Twilight series but I would have cast Bella and Rosalie differently based on the description in the book I would have cast Edward differently as well. But although Kristen Stewart's stuttering and awkwardness is really hard to watch the movies are worth sitting through it. I just hope that in the ending of Twilight they don't do what all the movies are doing and rush through the battle. But I'm sure they will and i will be left feeling unsatisfied like when i left Harry Potter part 2.

How to end a movie 101

What is going on with these directors and there horrible movie endings did they all miss that class in film school? There is nothing worse then being in the movie theater enjoying your movie then "BAM" screen goes black you start looking up at the projection rooms little window expecting to see flames and smoke because no way could that have been the ending then credits start scrolling up and you think to yourself what the ..... was that. you leave the theater in a dazed fog unsatisfied and slightly angry and all you can say is WTF were they thinking. This used to be a rare thing but unfortunately it is happening way to often lately. So I'm going to say this to all the directors out there so please take note it is not cool nor will it ever be cool to just end a movie point blank. We as movie goers like our things all tied up at the end all mysteries revealed and bad guys caught. The only time it is OK to leave us hanging is when we know there will be a sequel. I mean Salt was a great movie till she jumped out of the helicopter and then it ended role credits no way did they just do that what did they run out of money and thought OK i guess will just stop there then. You better be making a salt 2 or that was just a waste of time and don't get me started on the disastrous ending in skyline. what the heck was that OK lets just lay down and give up........end WTF really. Bad endings happen so often now a days I don't even want to spend the $10 to go see the movie in theaters anymore. I mean isnt the point of making a movie to make money at the box office and then again in dvd sales well if you keep up with these endings your not gonna do that and you will lose future money on all box office movies cause people will just stop going to the theaters.

My Top 5  worst movie endings:
1. Skyline :
We are gonna try and fight the aliens oh wait i got zapped one two many times im tired i need to lay down end scence.......just horrible...... then the stupid comic like drawings flashing in the credits horrible.

2. Salt
She jumps from her helicopter and you think she's gonna go after the other "bad guys" but no it just ends. whens part 2 coming out?
3. No counrty for old men
Ramble Ramble Ramble and the bad guy gets away.............

4. The Fog (2005)
It was great untill they get in the car and try to drive out of the fog and then he shoots everyone except himself only to then realiz he didn't have to ..........tragic

5.The Abyss
The stupid alien ship rises out of the ocean and everyone is fine..............could we not think of an ending so we just didnt make one?
